Conversations
Live sends microphone audio and the words needed for interpretation to our online services. Our current Live implementation uses Fly.io to host the service, Soniox for speech recognition, Google Cloud Translation for translation, Anthropic for meaning checks, and Inworld for spoken output. Nearby speech can be captured while the microphone is active. Tell the other person before starting and respect their choice to stop.
Our application does not save conversation recordings or transcripts to server storage. Conversation text and short audio buffers are held in memory while processing; a disconnected Live session can remain in worker memory for up to 120 seconds for reconnection. The app holds displayed words in memory while the screen is open. Phrases you choose to save in Quick Translate, with the sound made for them, stay on your phone until you delete them or uninstall the app; they are not backed up and are not sent to us. Screenshots, Android previews and anything you export are outside this memory-only behavior.
Online Quick Translate sends the phrase to our service and Google. When it reads a translation aloud online, our service sends the translation to Inworld, the voice Live uses, and sends the sound back to your phone; offline, or where Inworld has no voice for the language, your phone's own voice reads it. Downloaded-model Quick translation uses Google ML Kit on your phone when online translation is unreachable. Model inputs and outputs are processed on the phone; ML Kit can send Google usage and performance metrics and request model updates. Your phone's speech recognition and voice services may use their own online processing, including when an offline translation model is installed. Words you type or paste into Quick Translate are read on the phone by Google ML Kit language identification, to tell which language they are in; it can send Google usage and performance metrics. Text you choose to send from another app with Translate with Pocket is translated the same way as Quick Translate, and nothing is sent back to that app unless you tap Replace.
When you switch from Live to Quick Translate, up to four complete recent phrases may remain as a temporary reference on your phone. This reference clears when you leave Quick, clear it, or ten minutes after leaving Live. It is not saved or automatically sent with a translation. Choosing a phrase copies it into the normal editable Quick draft; that draft stays until you clear it or leave Quick.
Account, purchases and diagnostics
Our control plane stores an anonymous install identifier, app version, selected language pairs, session dates, Live time granted and used, and cost and purchase references in Neon Postgres. The worker keeps usage metadata in a private journal on an encrypted Fly.io volume. Diagnostics contain timings, counts and fixed error categories, rather than conversation words. Operational logs and service providers have separate retention policies.
To enforce Quick Translate's fair-use limits consistently across servers, the database also holds the anonymous install identifier and recent request times. These contain no phrase text. Only the preceding 24 hours count toward the allowance; expired records are removed when the service next processes requests. You can export these times or remove them by forgetting the install.
Opening the purchase screen can send an install identifier, app/device information and purchase information to Google Play and RevenueCat. Our server grants time only after an authenticated store notification. We do not receive your payment-card number. RevenueCat may retain purchase history and associated identifiers. Store purchases are not currently offered unless a verified catalog is available.
Language preferences and downloaded models remain on the phone until removed in Settings, Android storage settings or uninstall. We do not add an advertising SDK or sell conversation content. Service providers' processing and retention are governed by their own terms; this page does not promise that they retain no data.
Retention and your controls
Settings lets you export app metadata and forget the current install. Forgetting revokes its access, removes its account association and retry records, and clears its local credentials. It does not delete phrases you saved on the phone; delete those in Saved phrases. Billing, session and cost records remain for accounting, disputes and abuse investigation. No automatic expiry for those retained records has been implemented yet. Removing the install can lose access to unused time; export first and contact support about purchases.
Use Remove app data for instructions and a contact route. We do not need conversation recordings, payment-card details or authentication tokens to handle your request. Legal retention and provider deletion requests require individual review.
Translation providers
Quick Translate is powered by Google Translate, including downloaded models through Google ML Kit. Automatic translations can be wrong. Verify important amounts, dates, medication and commitments with the speaker.
